Making the Work Carry Forward
What has to survive when the conversation ends.
Recovering facts was not always enough
A later session could recover the subject of a conversation and still miss where we had stopped. Accepted assumptions, rejected explanations, and the next unresolved question could disappear even when the underlying documents survived. That made continuity a design problem in its own right.
Different records serve different purposes
The Bridge gave assignments and returned work a durable home. Source routing identified where to look for the controlling information. Structured state offered a more direct route to frequently needed facts. These functions are related, but a document archive, a source map, and a current-state record are not interchangeable.
Building the Bridge
In early September, the Bridge made the division of responsibilities more explicit. Chat was the place to reason with me. Work was the place for substantial execution. Drive held assignments, evidence and returned artifacts. The Knowledge Index and Source Router helped later sessions find the controlling records. I retained authority over consequential decisions.
Preserve important results once. Retrieve them cheaply thereafter. In practice, that meant preserving the decision frontier as well as the artifact: the accepted assumptions, the alternatives we had rejected and the next unresolved question. Recovering an entire old conversation was usually a more expensive way to discover those things.
Redundancy is valuable. Competing authority is not. A source map has to say which document or system controls a particular answer. A copied value needs an effective date and a path back to its source. Otherwise, adding another storage location can increase uncertainty.
Speed exposed another layer
In September I reported that simple phone questions could require repeated attempts before the system reached the right context. The resulting Quick Query work aimed to answer bounded routine questions without broad Drive searches. The subsequent assessment reported successful benchmark retrieval while identifying remaining connector overhead, manual freshness, and missing mobile acceptance. A useful benchmark did not close the whole field-use problem.
Preserving the next starting point
The record should preserve enough to resume responsibly: what was known, what controlled it, what changed, what was checked, and what still needs judgment. That is the kind of continuity I want to carry across tools and conversations.
